Inclusion BC Board Member!!!!

Hello everyone,         Today I want to tell you about my journey in becoming a board member for Inclusion BC.  Inclusion BC is a 28 member, not for profit advocacy Board of Directors for people who have cognitive diverse abilities. Much to my surprise, and delight, in the spring/summer of 2020, I became a member. When I first heard I was nominated, I was shocked! I didn’t  even know what board members did! How could I be one? But, I knew that working with Inclusion BC would mean there would be opportunities for me to advocate for people who have diverse abilities on a larger scale, and, I have always wanted to give back to people like me, so, really, how could I say no? I remember my first meeting with the Board, which was on zoom.  I met everyone, and they were all wonderful! They knew that I had never been on a board before, and that I may be a little overwhelmed, which I was, so they promised they would support me eve...

Miracle Treat Day!

This past Thursday, Dairy Queen’s all across Canada and the United States celebrated Miracle Treat Day. .For every blizzard bought that day, the proceeds go to your local Children’s Hospital. That’s right! You are ACTUALLY doing a good deed by eating ice cream!  It’s like having your cake (or…blizzard) and eating it too! I look forward to MiracleTreat Day every summer, and not just because I LOVE blizzards.  Children’s Hospitals holds a very place in my heart, and in the hearts of my family members. The first few years of my childhood were full of assessments at Alberta Children’s, checking for the  milestones I hit, and the ones I needed help to achieve. The doctors and nurses there felt like extended family who embraced us with open arms; and  gave my mom a light at the end of the tunnel after my diagn...

I am very fortunate to have had so much support from an amazing family, and from so many wonderful friends here.    Cerebral Palsy is a diverse ability caused from lack of oxygen  either at birth, or very shortly after. It has a very wide spectrum, like a lot of diverse abilities do, and, it  affects people in many different ways.  There are people with CP who walk very independently, with just a little limp, and there are others  who use wheelchairs full time, have very limited fine motor skills, and are non verbral. The severity of  CP depends how much oxegen the person was deprived of at birth. I have moderate CP.  Once, I went to an appointment at The Alberta Children's Hospital for one of many assesments, and the doctors there s...
