Tyler McGregor’s Skate of Hope

Hello everyone, For Today’s blog, I wanted to update you on a very inspiring event that happened in our community. Last Monday, an amazing young man, Tyler McGregor sledge skated around our stunning, Guinness World Record winning, Lake Windermere Whiteway.   Tyler, born in Ontario, was 16 years old when he was diagnosed with cancer(The Globe and Mail, 2022).   As a youth, Tyler loved hockey, and after having his leg amputated because of his disease, he not only got back into the sport, he became a Sledge Hockey Paralympian(The Globe and Mail, 2022)!  It turns out that Tyer and I have the same hero; Terry Fox, who had  a similar type of cancer that Tyler had. While going through his own trials and tribulations, Tyler often looked to Terry Fox for inspiration, and, this year,  as a survivor, he wanted to pay tribute to The Terry Fox Foundation by skating his sled 42km in each province in Canada. And, for BC, he picked The Windermere Whiteway!  How...

A wonderful 28th birthday weekend

Hello everyone, I have recently been given the advice about blogging that if you want to keep readers interested in your blog, you should do entries regularly. So, my goal with this blog is to write at least 2 entries month. For this blog entry, I thought I’d give you an update on my 28th birthday.  28!! I know!! Almost 30!! My 20’s are dwindling!  I still get excited for birthdays. A day to celebrate me! Ha!  Honestly, I used to get a bit nervous about turning another age older . My birthday is January 8th, one week after Christmas. I used to get very excited for Christmas, and then after that, I would get nervous about turning another year older, because I wasn’t sure how people who are the age I was turning were supposed to act. Independence was something that was talked about a lot in my childhood, and I was slow to meet some of my milestones as I grew, and sometimes I feel like I didn’t measure up to others who were my age. I felt like I still had a lot of m...

Winter~ A season for friendship

Happy 2023, everyone! Wow! It feels crazy saying that number! I can;t believe how fast time flies.  I hope you had a wonderful Christmas! I sure did! I got to spend Christmas morning with my mom, dad, sister and her boyfriend, as well as my aunt for the first time, which was really nice!. My aunt has  put on a great Christmas Eve feast at her house for the past few years now, and we now also have a winter solstice celebration, as part of our family holiday traditions. All three celebrations were so much fun, and I’ve had some nice relaxing times as well, witch I really needed after all my “Dare to be Different” presentations! They were so much fun, and I made my dream come true, but I was exhausted afterwards, so the break was well needed.     I love Christmas! It’s time for family and friends, and for being grateful for what you have. The carols and songs fill me up inside. Everyone tries to be a little kinder, and, hopefully Christmas can help remind us...
